The Dregs 02:49
We’re moving fast, cinder rushing past. We’re grey like mice and drowning in the dregs. We’ve tendencies of kicking all our feet and churning cream for someone else’s tea. We’re who we’ll be, seeing things we’ve seen, and waiting for what moves us finally. But I don’t know when I’ll come down with two feet on the ground

We hit our stride, numbers higher than the other guys, and we tagged the right accounts. We sold our shirts, the venue paid us what we’re worth, and we slept the right amount. Then we play every city, and everyone’s pleased. And back home we didn’t miss a thing – no weddings or babies. We’re here. Forever revered and praised.

Old Elba 03:23
You read your lines. I’ll read mine. You play your part, and I’ll play mine. Our brains will bore each groove we wore deeper than each time before. When we bow between the roses from the balcony, we’ll fill our reservoirs with the room’s applause. The rosy hue of the night’s review will dull with every read-through. So, each night perform with more scorn but always leave them wanting more. When we bow between the roses from the balcony, we’ll fill our reservoirs with the room’s applause until they’re drained dry again. You read your lines. I’ll read mine. Play your part, and I’ll play mine. Follow my lead. In no time, we’ll be right back on the marquee.

Maybe you’re in the throngs of it, doused in tulle and parade-wristed writ and thick veneer. Maybe you’re in the throngs of it, and soon you’ll be out of it. Probably. Revel in the holy ring when teeth meet your glass’s rim, and then repeat. You steal repose and drain your flooded woes on the plains below. They’re turning green. Raise a teary gin and whisper “until it rains again.” Toast to the “never-agains,” at least until it rains again. And again.
5.
Clamour 03:36
Let the leaking light creep through the curtain’s crease. Let it stretch across the floor. Let its lines take form where it finds your contour. Let it heave when you breathe. It’ll rise and it’ll fall, dance around the hospital with you, with me, with Patsy. We’ll rise and then we’ll fall, clamor around the hospital. It’s you and me like we used to be.
6.
Forage 02:20
Forage at your feet in the snow and leaves, find a juicy one for you to eat. Shake awake. Make our tender rounds through the background, biding time until we lay back down. We find similarity in the contradictory. Memorize my words and rehearse yours. Audit silence when they don’t occur.

Irons 03:24
Oh, just where do I begin in my toil for atonement? I’ve been restless since gated at the start, but now I’ve bucked the irons and I’m breathing hard. Oh, my trembling skin made a case for distraction. It got me gaslit, flickering off. But then I cite the past and I carried on. Oh, my favorite sin, I swear I’ll forget it. “My last confession, at least for the night,” I croak, leaning into the neon light.
8.
Page 03:01
We’ll take our time, record it in between the lines. If your lead should break, we’ll pretend it’s something we’d erase. If the page runs out of space, we’ll fold it into an origami shape. We will learn our handwriting may be altered. Our letters wax and wane, but our stories will always end the same. We read the words, they arrange themselves all in reverse so that at the end we’re right back where we had begun. But, when we do it all again, I’m grateful that it never has to end.
9.
I’m losing it again for nothing that’s worth it: the wife, my kids, my mistresses all. My God, I’m gone again. My God, I’m going through it. For all the times I blocked your gaze–your frame face down on the good days –I swear to you I thought your name. My God, I’m gone again. My God, I’m going through it. A bottle of wine for all the times that I tried. A drained one for when I lied...and lied and lied. My God, I’m gone again. My God, I’m going through it.
10.
Sleep 02:47
I did my best to sleep it off, but the dreams were worse than I recalled. Morbid thoughts were teaming up with things that I remembered wrong. I said bad things...really, really bad things. My whiskey breath, our dirty room, my thoughts and how I set them loose. Patch the holes I bored in you, but the stitching just inflames the wounds. I said bad things...really, really bad things.
11.
Raehn St. 02:15
Leave it all to me: the cracking ground where it’s weak and the trees, their puzzling leaves and the maze that they laid down. Leave it all to me: the nervous latch that trembled itself free and the sounds of hallowed towns and things everyone had seen. Hey, it cut me down when they cut you down.
